‘Record’ year: SSC, Class X results declared, 99.95 per cent students pass

As many as 15.74 lakh students who had registered for Class X, Secondary School Certificate (SSC) 2020-21, have passed, as per the results declared by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Friday. It created a record of sorts as the pass percentage, 99.95, is the highest recorded in the state so far. Compared to the previous year, board results have improved by 4.65 per cent.

The SSC exams were scheduled in April but due to the rising Covid-19 cases across the country, Class X exams were cancelled across boards. Later, the state board declared an evaluation criterion for tabulating results, where marks of Class 9 and internal assessments of students in Class 10 were to be considered for preparing final results at the school level.

While earlier it was expected that no registered student would fail since schools are tabulating results at their level, of the 15,75,806 fresh candidates who had registered for exams, schools sent assessment reports for 15,75,752, of which 15,74,994 students passed.

A total of 82,802 repeater candidates had registered for exams, of which 82,674 students’ results were tabulated by schools and 74,618 candidates passed, making it a pass percentage of 90.25 per cent.

While 368 students qualified for ATKT (allowed to keep term) exams as they failed to clear two or fewer subjects, 916 students have to appear for a re-exam since they failed in more than three subjects. Of the fresh candidates, 758 have failed to clear the exams.

Nine schools in the state had zero pass percentage, with not a single student clearing SSC.

Asked for the reason behind schools not having a single passing student or students failing despite internal assessments being criteria for tabulating results, Dinkar Patil, chairman of MSBSHSE, said, “Some students may not have submitted any work at all during the entire year or failed to appear for internal assessments despite repeated attempts from schools. If it happened in two subjects, they are passed with ATKT or they have to appear for re-exam. As far as the nine schools are concerned, we are in the process of analysing why their results are nil.”

Meanwhile, the pass percentage of girls this year, 99.96, was slightly better than boys 99.94, as is the case every year.

Over 1 lakh students get over 90 per cent marks

Among the nine divisions, Konkan Division has the highest pass percentage as it declared 100 per cent results, while the lowest pass percentage is from Nagpur Division, 99.94. In all, 27 of the 72 subjects have seen 100 per cent results. Of the 22,767 schools in the state, 22,384 have also reported 100 per cent results.

In all, 1,04,633 students received more than 90 per cent marks and 957 students have got 100 per cent marks.

Some schools get zero per cent

Nine schools in the state have received zero per cent results. Of these, two are Pune Division while four are from Nagpur, two from Mumbai and one from Nashik Division. The results of 4,922 candidates have been ‘reserved’ by the board, which is expected to be revised and released by next week, said Patil.

“Most of these candidates are repeater students. According to the assessment criteria, we need the previous year’s report of the students and in some cases, it was not available with the schools. Since we had to declare results in time, we held back these results and declared results for the rest. Once we get the data for these students, we will release their results and it is expected that the pass percentage, especially of repeater students, will go up then,” said Patil.

The evaluation criteria used by schools

Students have been assessed out of maximum 100 marks for each subject. According to the evaluation pattern, the final results are based on subject-wise marks scored by a candidate in internal written evaluation conducted during the year (30 marks), homework/oral exam/ practical / internal assignments as per board’s policy (20 marks) and final results of Class 9 (50 marks).

How to check results

Maharashtra Board Result 2021 for Class 10 is available at mahahsscboard.in, mahresult.nic.in. Since no hall tickets were issued to students this year, schools have been given the facility of checking the roll number of students by using their school login ID and password. They have to inform students about their individual roll numbers, which the candidates can enter to check results online.

Re-exam and re-valuation

Since the board exams were cancelled this year and the final results of students have been tabulated based on internal assessments at the school level like unit tests or term exams, whose papers are shared with students by schools, there is no provision this year for obtaining photocopies of answer-sheets or revaluation of marks.

Those students who are not satisfied with the marks obtained by them will have the option of appearing for exams under Class Improvement Scheme, which will be held after the pandemic situation is better.
