Traffic chaos on eastern express highway as tomato-laden truck overturns in Thane

THANE: One person was injured after a truck carrying tomatoes lost control and overturned near Kopari in Thane on Eastern Express Highway at around 2 am on Friday.
The injured was shifted to the nearest hospital, Thane Municipal Corporation informed.
Around 20 tonnes of tomatoes, scattered on Eastern Express Highway leading to traffic jam on both lanes of the Eastern express highway on Friday morning. The tomato-laden truck met with a mishap and toppled on the Kopri bridge stretch.
Even as authorities tried to move the toppled vehicle to the side, the entire load of tomatoes spilled out on the road adding to the chaos. Police and rescue teams were busy clearing the stretch ahead of the morning peak hour traffic.

Meanwhile, the suburban trains on the Central Railway’s mainline as well as the Harbour line are running 20 to 25 minutes behind their schedule due to heavy rains in parts of Mumbai and its suburbs since early morning on Friday. Water-logging was reported on tracks at a few places, disrupting the local train services.
Local train services are currently running only for personnel engaged in health and other essential services in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, while road traffic was hit due to waterlogging in various parts of the city on Friday morning.
The India Meteorological Department had earlier predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy rainfall at the isolated places on Friday.
