  • Wife accused of murder released on bail.
  • Leon Nortier was shot last week.
  • Strict bail conditions set.

The wife of well-known Cape Town lawyer Leon Nortier, who was arrested for his murder, was on Friday released on bail and referred to Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital.

Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said Mientel Nortier was granted bail of R10 000 with strict conditions.

"She was referred to Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, and her case was postponed to August 20 for further investigation. While waiting for a bed at the hospital, the court ordered her to admit herself immediately at the West Beach Clinic for treatment."

Mientel, 60, was arrested after Nortier was shot in their Heron Road, Table View, home last week.

Ntabazalila said Mientel must notify the investigating officer prior to her discharge from the clinic.

"When a bed becomes available at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, she must report to the court for referral for observation", he said.
