I am Subhransu Satpathy, a wildlife & nature conservation filmmaker & activist.  Since 2006,  I have been working with an initiative to save thirsty birds in summer. I arrange workshops in schools, colleges & various societies. There, they (people in schools, colleges, etc) learned regarding this small initiative.

I also distribute muddy water pots to them so as to place on their balconies, rooftops & other suitable places and regular fill it with plenty of water so that the water wave would be visible to birds who are searching for it. Till date, I have distributed more than 25.000 water pots to various societies.

I also made a movie on this and arranged a screening to create awareness. Apart from that, I did many things to create awareness among the people. I planted trees, ran to save forests, river beat plastic pollution and extinguished fire on a nearby hill in my hometown.

Suddenly our country was hit by this pandemic. Many lost their relatives, jobs and everything. I extended my step towards these people to fulfil the minimum demands. So, I started providing ‘happy meal’ to the needy. I prepared 20 to 50 number of meals, not always the same meal. Sometimes, it was sandwiches and at others, it was pizza & maggie.

I started distributing among the needy so many times who I found. I had to pass on a few people which made me really sad. Thus, I shared it with my sister & brother following which they extended financial help towards this initiative. Consequently, we started distribution of fruits & ration to the homemakers who could not afford minimum wages to make ends meet.

Successful restoration generated a wide range of benefits not only in terms of forests’ quantity and quality but also enhanced food security, improved air and water quality & climate change resilience.

In this initiative, with the help of two daily wage workers, I turned a bare waste less land into a farm land. From these farms, presently, more than five families comprising of more than 30 members now independently sell those vegetables & earn from it. They are now totally independent in this time of the pandemic.
