Viva Dominicana fined USD 5 mln for irregular spectrum use

Friday 16 July 2021 | 11:51 CET | News
The Dominican Republic's telecommunications regulator Indotel has imposed a fine amounting to DOP 369 million (around USD 5.1 million) on operator Trilogy Dominicana (Viva) for making improper use of the radioelectric spectrum. Following an investigation prompted by complaints from rivals Altice and Claro dating back to 2017, the watchdog said it detected use by Viva of frequencies in the 1710-1720 MHz and 2110 MHz-2120 MHz ranges even though the operator didn't take part in the country's 2014 auction of LTE spectrum.
