Amid the rise in Covid-19 infections in several states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asked the State governments to take proactive measures to prevent a third wave with test, track, treat and 'tika (vaccine)' strategy.

PM Modi virtually interacted with Chief Ministers of Karnataka, tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, odisha and andhra pradesh where there is increase in number of Covid cases. The prime minister said india is at a point where pandemic third wave apprehensions are continuously being expressed.

Last week 80  per cent of new COVID-19 cases and 84 per cent of deaths were reported from these States, Modi said during his interaction. He said a similar trend was witnessed before the second wave in january and February. "The States need to focus on districts with rapid increase in infections", he said.

The prime minister assured to provide funds to States for arranging new intensive care Unit beds and increasing testing capacity. Modi pointed out that the central government had recently released an  COVID-19 emergency response package of over Rs 23,000 crore. He asked the States to prevent crowds at public places in a strict regard.  

Modi highlighted the worrying trend similar in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand.
