A couple of weeks back, the actress got embroiled in a controversy for using a casteist slur in one of her videos that she posted online.

She was slammed by netizens and #ArrestMunmunDutta started trending on Twitter. However, after facing backlash, Munmun trimmed her video and also issued an apology on social media.

The actress had shared that the word used by her was not said with the intent to 'insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone's feelings'. She also mentioned she was 'misinformed about the meaning of the word'.

There were five FIR's lodged against her under Section 3(1)(u) Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocites) Act in different parts of the country. Later, the Supreme Court issued stay orders on all the five FIRs.

Meanwhile, ever since the inception of one of the longest-running television shows 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', Munmun has been playing an integral part. Her character is that of a Bengali woman married to a South Indian man.
