The Mets are “back in black.”
The team announced Thursday morning it will bring back their black jerseys starting July 30, when they face off against the Reds. They will wear the jerseys during every Friday night home game for the rest of the season.
The Mets shared a video on their Twitter and Instagram accounts featuring closeups of the throwback unis — which featured blue names and numbers, along with white and orange outlining — to music similar to Marvel movie soundtracks.
“It’s back again as we rep our pastime,” a voice can be heard narrating the 0:45-second clip. “Yeah you heard right: It’s black again for a brand new time.”
Pete Alonso, the reigning two-time Home Run Derby winner, shared a photo that featured him repping a black Mets uniform with the caption, “Back in black 7.30.21.”
Mets owner Steve Cohen revealed in March that the franchise would be bringing back the black jerseys, which they have not used since 2014.
To celebrate the “back to black,” the Mets will give away 12,000 Francisco Lindor black t-shirts to fans at Citi Field on July 30.

The Mets will sport the throwback tops on Aug. 13 against the Dodgers, Aug. 27 against the Nationals, Sept. 10 against the Yankees, and Sept. 17 against the Phillies.
