The great debate: Man finally reveals how to make the PERFECT Milo after being crowned Australia's best - beating some VERY unusual creations

  • The great debate over the perfect way to make Milo has finally been settled
  • The winning recipe calls for three heaped teaspoons of Milo and 200ml of milk
  • The milk has to be poured carefully over the Milo so it doesn't float to the top

The great debate on how to make the perfect Milo has been settled, with a Milo-lover's go-to method being crowned Australia's best by the brand's top tasters.

Three heaped scoops of Milo topped with ice-cold milk is the way to go, according to Milo lover Sergei and the judges at this year's Nestle competition.

A few wild card entries got a special mention following Sergei's method being given top spot - including Milo served with orange slices and a chai and Milo blend.

Sergei says the trick is to not disturb the mound of milo at the bottom of the cup so surprise chunks can float to the surface or be found by the deep-dive spoon explorations.

He calls it 'hunting for Milo gold' and claims it requires precisely three heaped spoons of Milo and 200mls of cold milk.

And the prize for Sergei was well worth sharing his Milo-making secret to the world.

Sergei took taking home #TheMILOCup trophy, a year's supply of MILO to share, and will have his winning creation immortalised on a limited-edition run of the iconic tin according to Nestlé Dairy Business Manager Anna Stewart.

Hunting for Milo gold: The winning method

Place three heaped teaspoons of Milo into a glass.

Pour 200ml of milk over the top, careful not to disturb the Milo at the bottom of the cup.

This unique technique creates a milky top appearance in the mug, leaving Milo ‘gold’ (chunky Milo pieces) throughout the drink to discover and enjoy.

'Milo lovers opened our eyes to the many ways they like to enjoy the delicious and much-loved drink. It was hard to pick a winner, but we're excited to have finally settled the debate on how to make the best Milo,' she said.

'We love that it had become a game for Sergei and his family in their household and that his daughter even started rating his technique!

'We hope Aussies will be keen to try to recreate it at home and love it as much as the judges do,' she said.

The limited-edition tins will be available nationwide near the end of the year.
