Ghaziabad: A 40-year-old man was shot dead while his friend was injured after two people fired at them in Muradnagar area on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Rishi Chaudhary, was an employee of Muradnagar Ordnance Factory.
He also worked as a property dealer and often loaned money to people on interest, police said. Rishi’s friend Sumit Kumar (37) used to work with him. The two stayed together in a rented accommodation.
Muradnagar police station SHO Hariom Singh said around 8am on Wednesday, two people known to Rishi came to his house. A conversation followed and Rishi called Sumit from his room to join them.
“Rishi asked his wife Tanu to make some tea and breakfast for the ‘guests’. Nearly 10 minutes passed and while Tanu was busy in the kitchen, the accused fired six rounds at Rishi and Sumit. While Rishi crashed to the floor, Sumit fell on the sofa,” Singh said.
After hearing the gunshots, Tanu came to the room and raised an alarm. The accused pushed her away and fled, firing in the air as they left. Within five minutes, neighbours rushed to the house to help. They informed the police and took the victims to a nearby private hospital. While Rishi was declared dead, Sumit is in the ICU.
SHO Singh said that the motive behind the murder was unclear. “We suspect there may be a financial reason,” he added.
Singh said that Rishi had told his wife the name of the two men when they arrived. “But she is not in a condition to speak as yet. According to eyewitnesses, the accused had not covered their faces. Police are scanning CCTV footage of nearby areas to trace them,” he added.
An FIR has been registered against unknown people under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder).
