FCC creates more open RAN Innovation Zones in Raleigh, Boston

FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel has proposed the establishments of new innovation zones for research in advanced mobile communications and network innovation. The zones, to be set up in Raleigh (North Carolina) and Boston (Massachusetts), would work to develop and integrate 5G network technologies and open radio access networks (Open RAN). The FCC has invited comments on the current status of Open RAN development and deployment, on whether and how the commission might foster its success, and how to support competitiveness and new entrant access to the emerging market.
