Kusal Perera of Sri Lanka is forced to skip the series against India following an injury. He will be missing the six-match series that is scheduled to be commenced on July 18.
The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Perera was the head of the team Sri Lanka as a captain in England but Dasun Shanaka was later appointed as a commander at his expense since the central contract dispute between players and the cricket board.
“Kusal Perera is almost certain to be out of Sri Lanka’s series against India, after picking up a shoulder injury. The team has not divulged the exact nature of the injury, not withdrawn him officially, but a team doctor says he is likely to be out for six weeks,” reported ESPN Cricinfo.
The 30-year-old Perera has achieved 3071 runs in 107 ODIs and scored 1347 runs on 50 T20 Internationals.
Former captain Perera did couldn’t attend the practice session on Wednesday because of an injury to his shoulder. He hurt his shoulder during the England tour reportedly but had decided to still play despite injury as he was the captain and one of the most competent players on tour.
“Medical staff have given an injection to him so he didn’t practice with the team yesterday and today. We have to take a call tomorrow, but it’s not looking good,” informed an SLC official to NewsWire.
