The Taliban denied the allegation, claiming that the border crossing is still under their control. For months, the Western-backed government in Kabul has been fighting Taliban insurgents.

According to a top Afghan government official, government forces have retaken control of a vital border crossing with pakistan previously controlled by the Taliban. The Taliban, on the other hand, rejected the report, claiming that they still had control of the border crossing.

The Taliban had controlled a border station in Helmand province for more than a week, according to the Afghan authorities. But as per a Taliban spokesperson, their troops still control the border station, and the allegation is an unfounded claim by the Kabul administration. According to an Afghan official, government forces are conducting clearing operations to reduce civilian and security casualties.

Pakistan has closed its side of the border at the second busiest crossing on the key commercial corridor between Kandahar, Afghanistan, and Pakistani ports. As US-led international forces depart and the Taliban seize more districts and border crossings, clashes between the Taliban and government forces have become more intense.
