A demolition permit has been pulled for the former Golden Corral building in Fort Gratiot Township.

A building that was once falsely rumored to be a future Chick-fil-A and was for sale for $2.2 million is now slated to be demolished.

Fort Gratiot Township Supervisor Rob Crawford said in an email Buck Martin of Martin Construction dropped off a demolition permit application Thursday morning and there are two excavators on the site at 4783 24th Ave.

He said they still need notice from DTE that the electric power has been disconnected. The electricity has been disconnected and the electric meter has been removed, they just need the paperwork before the final approval.

“There are no current plans for the property,” Crawford said. “It will revert to a vacant parcel ready for redevelopment with utilities available.”

The building operated as a Golden Corral for 10 years before it closed in December 2019. In June there were social media rumors it would reopen as a Chick-fil-A, but the company said it was not considering the site at the time.

The building's equipment was sold and moved out and the building was utilized by Fort Gratiot and Burtchville township firefighters for training in late June.
