LUDHIANA: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Trade Wing state president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that it was only due to the "wrong policies" of the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government that the industries of Punjab were being forced to turn to other states for work.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar alleged that the Captain government had failed miserably to provide 24-hour uninterrupted power supply along with other facilities to the industries. He said that earlier during the ten years rule of the Badal government, the traders of Punjab were troubled by different types of ‘goonda taxes’ and now the Congress leaders were also following the footsteps of the Badals and harassing the industrialists; due to which they were showing interest in investing in UP.
Nijjar said that over 50 industries including steel parts, dyeing units, yarn, cycle parts, textile, etc, had reportedly shown interest in investing in UP and in return had got details of land available in different districts, sops, including 24-hour power supply; which would be disadvantageous for Punjab.
“Due to lack of facilities and power crisis because of the failure of the Captain government; the industries are looking for alternative investments, which will eventually put the state revenue on the brink,” he added. Nijjar alleged that Captain Amarinder Singh, who formed the government by promising 24-hour power supply to the people of Punjab, had failed in implementing it, which was causing huge economic loss to the industries.
Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh, Nijjar said that by promising to supply power to industries at Rs 5 per unit, Captain had given "expensive power" to the industries across the country. He said that under Captain Amarinder Singh's rule, small traders, shopkeepers, farmers and industrialists were in dire straits. Nijjar said that there had been no industrial revolution in Punjab during the last four-and-a-half year’s tenure of the Captain government and they had only betrayed the people of Punjab. He said that the industry cannot be ignored, which provides huge revenue to the state, labour to lakhs of people, etc.
The AAP leader further alleged that due to the failure of the ruling Captain government and the previous Badal government, the big and medium units from Punjab were now preparing to expand their base in UP. Nijjar said that the Congress and the SAD-BJP, while in power in Punjab had always "robbed" the people with their wrong policies. He demanded that Captain Amarinder Singh should compensate the industries for the economic losses incurred due to power shortage. Nijjar said that the people of Punjab would definitely punish Akali Dal Badal as well as the Congress for "reneging" on their promises.
