Two arrested for PG owner’s murder

Gurgaon: Two criminal, with reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads, were arrested by crime branch of Gurgaon police after a brief encounter on Gurgaon-Faridabad road on Wednesday morning. Three policemen and the accused sustained injuries in the cross-firing and are now undergoing treatment.
The duo, identified as Prashant alias Jonty (24) of Bahadurgarh and Manish Kumar Jakhar (30) of Salawas village revealed that they were involved in more than 20 criminal cases, including murder, loot and car robberies in Gurgaon and Delhi. The duo were arrested in connection with the murder of a paying guest accommodation owner in Islampur village in Sector 38 on May 4.
ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said the duo was absconding after the murder of the PG owner. “The PG owner — Sandeep —was killed because he asked them to submit identity proof before taking a room in the accommodation,” said ACP adding that the accused had pumped five bullets after altercation with Sandeep.
While Manish’s name did not feature in any previous record, Jonty was a dreaded criminal, who entered into the crime world at the age of 14. “Jonty had committed his first murder along with his father. Being a juvenile at the time of committing his first crime, he came out from the juvenile home within a few months, while his father was jailed for 20 years,” Sangwan said.
After coming out of the correction home, Jonty moved with his maternal uncle to Jharsa village in Gurgaon. In 2018, he had shot at a villager and was apprehended again and released after two months. In March 2019, Jonty along with his close friends had committed a robbery at Sindhiya traders in Delhi’s Lahori Gate in Delhi.
Police had received a tip-off on Jonty and Manish’s movement on Gurgaon-Faridabad road. Following which barricades were put up. The duo, who were in a two-wheeler rammed into one of the barricades and later tried to run over a cop. As police tried to stop them, they left the bike and ran into the Aravalis for cover. As police chased them they open fired, following which cops fired at them too. The accused suffered injuries on their legs and were overpowered and arrested.
Three policemen sustained injuries, of whom one sustained bullet injuries. In-charge of crime unit of Sector 39, sub-inspector Raj Kumar, had a narrow escape as two bullets fired by the accused hit his bullet proof jacket.
