Chile to invest CLP 6.5 bln in Coquimbo fibre build

Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel said the country's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) and the Regional Government of Coquimbo have agreed plans to invest around CLP 6.5 billion in a project to bring last-mile fibre connectivity to rural and underserved areas. The deal is part of the nationwide Fibra Optica Nacional (FON) initiative and will enable a greater number of operators in 43 localities across the northern Chilean region to connect to fibre-optic broadband networks.
