Chennai, July 15 (UNI) The 119th birth anniversary of former
Congress stalwart and late Chief Minister K Kamaraj was
celebrated in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra
Modi took to twitter to pay rich tributes to Mr Kamaraj on the
occasion.
Mr Modi wrote "Paying homage to the great Shri K. Kamaraj on his
birth anniversary. He dedicated his life to national development and
social empowerment. His emphasis on education, healthcare and
women empowerment continue to inspire the people of India."
Mr Venkaiah Naidu tweeted 'Remembering the former Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister, Shri K Kamaraj on his birth anniversary. He was a
visionary leader, known for his simplicity, integrity & deep concern
for the poor.He will always be remembered for his monumental role
in invigorating the state's education system.'
TNCC Chief K S Alagiri, Congress leaders and functionaries also
paid floral tributes to the late leader to mark the occasion.
Scores of TNCC functionaries thronged the residence of Kamaraj,
which was converted into a memorial, at Thirumalai Road in the city,
and garlanded his statue and paid floral tributes to mark the occasion.
Leaders of various political parties also paid floral tributes to the late
leader.
Various welfare programmes, including planting of tree saplings were
also organised to mark the occasion.
