Stephen Colbert Calls Donald Trump's Final Days in Office 'The Turd Reich'

Stephen Colbert has labeled Donald Trump's final days in office "the Turd Reich" on his Wednesday night show.

In his Late Show monologue, the host told viewers that a flurry of books were being published about the 2020 election and the end of the Trump administration.

"We're learning a lot of new details about the last days in office of the former president—the Turd Reich," Colbert joked.

"And the details are all coming from a slew of new deep-dive tell-all, muck slings and goss dish tea sloshers," he added.

These new titles include Michael Bender's Frankly, We Did Win This Election and Michael Wolff's Landslide.

A book about the Trump administration's response to the pandemic, Nightmare Scenario by Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta, was published in June.

I Alone Can Fix It by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker will hit shelves in a week. Betrayal by Jonathan Karl will be published in November.

Pointing to the titles Betrayal and Nightmare Scenario, Colbert joked that this was "how the former president describes having to read a book."

He also explained that some of the books' names were quotes by Trump, such as I Alone Can Fix It.

The host went on: "Those, of course, join the ranks of other great titles, like 'People Are Flushing Toilets 10 Times, 15 Times,' 'The Kidney Has a Very Special Place in the Heart,' 'Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV: The Book' and, of course, 'In Europe, They Live, They're Forest Cities. They Are Called Forest Cities, They Maintain Their Forests, They Manage Their Forests. I Was With the Head of a Major Country — It's a Forest City.'"

Colbert went on to say that the "big bombshell from these books is an account of the infamous moment during the D.C. Black Lives Matter protest when the big strong law-and-order president hid in an underground bunker."

He added, poking fun at Rudy Giuliani: "The ex-president was so embarrassed when his little hidey-hole adventure was leaked that he reportedly said, 'Whoever did that, they should be charged with treason,' adding, 'They should be executed.'

"Careful, sir, if you start executing people for leaking, you'll have to find a new lawyer."

Over on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon also used the new books to take aim at the former president.

"Speaking of Trump, a new book just came out that describes 'anarchy and chaos' in the final days of his administration," he joked. "Yeah, the final days were 'anarchy and chaos,' as opposed to the early days of Omarosa and Scaramucci that were a well-oiled machine, I guess."
