The God of Mischief Loki is coming back for a season 2

Disney Plus has renewed the Marvel television series Loki for a second season. The renewal was announced mid-way through the end credits for Loki’s last episode of, what now we can say, Season 1. We see Loki’s case file being stamped: “Loki will return in season 2.”

Loki is set in a Marvel Cinematic Universe adjacent world where the God of Mischief is in troubled waters with the bureaucratic TVA (Time Variant Authority). The series stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and he is joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki, and Michael Waldron is head writer.

Loki as a series has appeased and floored fans and critics alike. After the success of another two of MCU’s television series Wanda-Vision, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the expectations with Loki were very high, to say the least.

Even before the final episode of the first season aired, fans started speculating about the possible renewal of the series for a second series. Disney Plus which has the exclusive rights to air Loki announced the new season during mid-credits in the season 1 finale which aired on July 14. In the scene, Loki’s variant case file is shown before somebody stamps it with a message revealing season 2 is in development.

Richard E Grant, who featured as Classic Loki, said in a recent interview that he “wouldn’t say no” to an MCU return if he was asked back. Tom Hiddleston who plays the character of Loki, had mentioned previously in an interview, “I have learned, at this point, having said goodbye to the character more than twice, two and a half times maybe, to make no assumptions.”

No release date for the second season has been revealed yet. Loki started a new record for the Disney Plus platform by accumulating an estimated 731 million minutes of viewing time.
