Destiny 2 Compass Rose god roll recommendation and drop location explained

Guns and roses.

Destiny 2's Compass Rose is an event-specific weapon in Destiny 2.

Debuting in Destiny 2 during Season of the Splicer alongside the likes of the Uzume RR4, Plug One.1 and the Hung Jury SR4, the Compass Rose is a possible drop during Solstice of Heroes.

If you've been on the lookout for a new shotgun to conquer in both PvE and PvP, this is one worth hunting for. This page explains how to get the Compass Rose and our Compass Rose god roll recommendation - alongside other rolls which might come in handy.

Compass Rose farm: How to get Compass Rose in Destiny 2

Unlike the aforementioned weapons, which are all possible drops during Nightfall Strikes, the Compass Rose is exclusive to Solstice of Heroes in 2021.

The limited time event offers a great chance to obtain this new weapon fairly easy, although it will require some more of your time to get the god roll.

You can obtain a starter drop just by following the first quest steps of Eva Levante in the Tower. This provides a glimpse of its potential, but don't expect to obtain a god roll right away, as it seems this first drop always comes with the same perks - which aren't exactly extraordinary.

To get more Compass Roses, you have to open Solstice Packages, which are rewarded from chests during an EAZ run. As with most loot, drops aren't guaranteed - and appear to be on the low side - so it's a case of opening as many as possible to try your luck.

Reddit user 92EarlG completed 15 EAZ runs within the first week, but they had no luck with a Compass Rose.

Remember to open Solstice Packages, you need to have 15 Key Fragments. These are sourced from EAZ runs, or from playlists throughout the game - whichever you prefer to run.

Because of EAZ being the best way to source both Solstice Packages and Key Fragments, that's arguably the best way to farm Compass Rose. If you can do your Solstice armour steps along with it, then you tick off two things at once!

Season of the Splicer continues! We've seen the end of the Path of the Splicer quest and a new Expunge mission questlines, and the arrival of Solstice of Heroes 2021 for a limited time. Elsewhere, we've seen new Nightfall weapons such as the Uzume RR4, Plug One.1 and Hung Jury SR4. Elsewhere, we've seen the return of Vault of Glass, which offers both the Vex Mythoclast and Fatebringer, as well as new chest locations and Glass Shards to find. Other recent new features include transmog and materials Synthstrand, Synthcord and Synthweave, the Splicer Gauntlet and Decrypted Data used to upgrade it. Finally, learn when the weekly reset time takes place to maximise your rewards.

Compass Rose god roll recommendation in Destiny 2

Compass Rose is a weapon with random rolls - meaning each time you get one, the barrel, rounds and perks will be randomised.

As per usual, coming up with a 'best' combination of rolls and perks is rather tricky since it will vary depending on your taste and the modes that you have in mind for the weapon. A few will be great for PvE, while others excel at PvP instead.

The community has baptized these 'god rolls' - mostly due to their sheer power and how they increase each weapon's capabilities even further, or compensate some weapons that might be lacking a buff to be optimal with the rest.

Here is our recommended Compass Rose god roll in Destiny 2:

  • Trench Barrel or Vorpal Weapon
  • Surplus
  • Assault Mag
  • Full Choke or Barrel Shroud

Let's start with the perks. Surplus is a must have for this weapon. With it handling, reload speed and stability are all increased for each fully charged ability.

This is a great bonus to have, and while you may not be used to this playstyle, it's likely that it won't take you long to recharge your abilities again after use. Plus, the perk activates with even one of them.

From here, it depends on whether you're focusing on PvP or PvE. For the former, Vorpal Weapon works well enough by increasing your damage against Guardians with their Super active.

For PvE, we recommend Trench Barrel, which increases damage, handling and reloaded speed for a short duration (or after three shots) after a melee hit. Getting in the face of enemies is way easier here than in PvP, and thus you'll be making more use of it.

For the magazine, the Assault Mag works very well with both perk combinations. It increases stability quite a bit, as well as adding +10 rounds per minute, which is a great bonus.

Lastly, you have two choices for the barrel. Full Choke, which reduces the Compass Rose's projectile spread when aiming down sights at the cost of precision damage, combines perfectly with Surplus in PvE, allowing you to ADS faster.

But for PvP, Barrel Shroud will get the job done, increasing stability and handling even further. The loss of precision damage from Full Chocke can leave you in disadvantage, so this option will work well instead.

As per usual, once you have your preferred roll, be sure to upgrade it to a Masterwork to give it a stat boost, ability to generate Orbs on multi-kills, and add the option of a kill tracker!
