New Delhi, July 13

The Delhi Government today withdrew the order banning the entry of devotees in religious places in south-west Delhi after facing objections from members of the Sikh community.

The order was issued yesterday in view of the Covid situation. The Vasant Vihar SDM issued fresh instructions on Tuesday cancelling the orders. The earlier instructions had been sent not only to gurdwaras but temples, mosques and churches also.

The issue was today taken up by Sikh organisations, including, the Jag Aasra Guru Ott, Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi and the DSGMC. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, DSGMC president, termed the order unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying elections to the DSGMC should be conducted now “as Covid is waning”. — TNS
