Several revisions to the Compass for 2022 drive the model to near-premium territory.

The 2022 Jeep Compass stretches the ethos of a premium SUV into a budget-friendly compact SUV category. It's a refreshed model that features an upgraded interior, added technology and new trim levels as part of a mid-generation update.

"The new 2022 Jeep Compass ushers in new levels of comfort and functionality, with premium styling and craftsmanship inside and out. A stunning new interior design and the addition of several standard advanced safety features make it even more desirable in the compact SUV segment," said Jim Morrison, vice president of Jeep Brand North America.

"Sophisticated and well equipped, the Compass stays true to its benchmark 4x4 capability and on-road dynamics, but with even more refinement and precision. It also boasts a host of new attributes and innovative technologies designed to keep consumers connected and make their lives easier."

Jeep will sell the 2022 Compass in five trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Latitude Lux, Limited, and Trailhawk.

The SUV's exterior has been refreshed with a new seven-slot grille, updated fascia and standard LED headlights. Compass Trailhawk models get a new signature red and black anti-glare hood decal.

Buyers can get the Compass in their choice of eight exterior colors including new Earl, and Bright White paint jobs.

Jeep continues to offer the Compass with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Its engine stop/start system mechanics have been refined for the new model year. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard and a nine-speed automatic is available.

Depending on trim level and options boxes checked, drivers get access to one of the two types of four-wheel drive that come standard. Most models have automatic four-wheel drive, which activates when a computer senses that the mode is required. Compass Trailhawk has a four-wheel drive system that can be engaged in 4-Low when extra traction is required.

All Compass models come standard with the Jeep Selec-Terrain system and its Auto, Snow and Sand/Mud drive modes. Rock mode and hill descent control are available on the Trailhawk SUV.

The Compass Trailhawk also gets a 1-inch factor lift, which enables up to 19 inches of water fording. There's also high-strength steel skid plates, unique front and rear fascias, red front and rear tow hooks and 17-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in all-season tires.

Revisions to the interior of the Compass are not unlike those in the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. "When designing the 2022 Jeep Compass interior, we aspired to breathe new life into all aspects of the vehicle, including shapes, surfaces and textures, to make it feel spacious and luxurious," said Chris Benjamin, director of interior design, Stellantis North America. "Our goal was to raise consumer expectations of what a compact SUV interior should look and feel like."

The instrument panel has been redesigned and now features sculptural elements that connect it to the rest of the cabin. Gloss black elements feature on the center stack.

Jeep has given the Compass a new multi-function steering wheel. The new shifter bezel, reconfigured center console cupholders, added front storage bin capacity and an available wireless smartphone charger add to the vehicle's luxe looks.

The Compass features an available 10.1-inch centrally located infotainment touch screen (an 8.4-inch screen is standard) that runs the Uconnect 5 operating system. A 10.25-inch driver information screen is available.

Redesigned, slim headrests, available second-row heated seats, available hands-free power liftgate, relocated second-row HVAC vents, available 115-volt power outlet and additional USB ports help move the premium SUV technology story forward. A dual-panel panoramic sunroof, leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, and heated front seats are also available.

Jeep is equipping every 2022 Compass with over 75 standard safety and security features including automatic emergency braking that detects cyclists and pedestrians. Late-arriving versions of the SUV will be available with Highway Assist lane-centering technology that integrates with adaptive cruise control. It will only be available on Limited, Trailhawk and High Altitude models.

The 2022 Jeep Compass will arrive in showrooms in the autumn of 2021. Pricing will be announced closer to the model's on-sale date.
