Two youths held for robbing truck driver at knifepoint

Two men were arrested for robbing a truck driver at knifepoint in Kancheepuram on Tuesday night. Mahesh Kumar, 22, and Jagan, 20, both of Pattabiram, intercepted a truck near Chinnayanchathiram on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway, held the truck driver at knifepoint and fled with his mobile phone. Fellow motorists who noticed the crime called the highway patrol. A team of police caught the duo, which escaped on a motorbike, during a vehicle check at Ponneri. Two cellphones were seized from them.

Tainted Chennai corpn departments get new heads

After cancelling tenders and putting several projects on review, Greater Chennai Corporation has now shuffled roles and put new chief engineers in charge of departments in which corruption was rampant. Among the reshuffles ordered by corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi on Tuesday, the bus route roads, interior roads, special projects and smart city projects were handed to chief engineer S Rajendiran. These departments were earlier handled by L Nandakumar, chief engineer, general. The departments had been in the radar for corrupt tender practices and malpractices in use of funds.
