Ten workers painting a high-rise wall in Nerul suffered injuries on Wednesday morning after the scaffolding supporting them collapsed. The painters were not wearing safety gear and thus the contractor has been booked.

According to the police, the accident took place at around 10.30 am when the workers were painting the outer wall of Shailesh Tower at sector 19A in Nerul. All of a sudden, the scaffolding on which they were standing collapsed and fell to the ground.

All the ten injured workers were admitted to Dr. D Y Patil Hospital in Nerul. However, the two workers had received severe injuries.

Police said that the contractor identified as Santosh Ramkote from Swaraj Construction have been booked for negligence.

“Ten painters were injured in the accident and two of them suffered grievous injuries. All of them were rushed to DY Patil Hospital at Nerul. No resident from the building suffered injuries,” said a police officer.

Sunil Gowli, inspector from Nerul police station said, “We have booked the contractor as he had not provided the workers with safety gears for doping such a risky job.” The contractor Ramkot has been booked for negligence under sections 336, 337, and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police are also taking statements from the painters who suffered minor injuries, and the residents of the building to get more details.
