Italian brand OVS scored the highest—78 per cent (an increase of 44 per cent—the highest—over the 2020 figure)—in the 2021 Fashion Transparency Index released recently by Fashion Revolution, a not-for-profit global movement. It was followed by H&M (68 per cent), Timberland and The North Face (66 per cent). Twenty major brands score a 0 per cent rating.

In the ‘policy and commitments’ section, OVS and Puma scored the highest at 94 per cent among 16 other brands that score in the 90 per cent range. OVS scored well in ‘traceability’, publishing detailed factory lists at the first tier as well as some of their processing facilities and raw materials suppliers further down the chain

OVS, along with Target Australia, scored the highest—55 per cent—in the ‘know, show & fix’ section, which reflects how brands assess whether their policies are upheld in their supply chains and what evidence they provide that their efforts are resulting in improved working conditions and responsible environmental practices.

This year, OVS is the highest scoring brand in the ‘spotlight issues’ section with a 72 per cent score, up from 24 per cent last year.

Notably, OVS is the only brand scoring in the 70 per cent range in this section, which measures transparency among brands across a range of critically important and increasingly urgent issues like COVID-19 response, purchasing practices, living wages, unionisation, gender and racial equality, use of sustainable materials, waste and circularity, water and chemicals, climate change and deforestation.

OVS is also part of 12 brands that have disclosed some of their raw materials suppliers for the first time in 2021.
