Gurgaon: Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said the Maruti plant would remain in Haryana, reacting to a statement by Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala that the auto giant was planning to shift the production of the popular Swift Dzire from Manesar to Gujarat. Khattar dubbed Surjewala’s statement “baseless” and said that it was during the Congress regime that Maruti had once shifted its plant to Gujarat. “We are in talks with Maruti Suzuki India Limited. They have also identified land in Kharkhoda (Sonipat). The plant will remain in Haryana,” Khattar told a news conference on the sidelines of a grievance committee meeting on Tuesday. “The Congress should be ashamed that one plant of Maruti has already shifted to Gujarat during their time, and that is why they are putting wrong blames on our government and this is ethically not right,” PTI quoted Khattar as saying. Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala also said that Maruti Suzuki had sought 900 acres in Kharkhoda for setting up a plant. He added that the company had asked for 800 acres for the production of cars and around 100 acres for motorcycles.
