Worse-than-expected shortages of chips for notebooks and tablets affected Compeq Manufacturing's PCB shipments for such applications in June, sending its revenues for the month falling 6.7% sequentially and 14.4% on year to NT$3.782 billion (US$135.07 million), according to company statistics.

Its January-June sales inched up 1% on year to NT$25.765 billion.

Compeq said it would not make a forecast for results in the second half of the year despite brisk order visibility for the months ahead, as notebook and tablet chips and components continue to see varying degrees of shortages and its actual shipments in the peak season would be short of order volumes.

Since 2020, Compeq has ramped up its shipments of HDI mainboards for notebooks and tablets including MacBook and iPad series, significantly helping boost its capacity utilization, revenues and profits, according to industry sources.

For the company, shipments for handset applications including flexible battery modules for new iPhones will be its core business for the second-half 2021,the sources said, but it cannot help but turn cautious about its revenue performance for the period due to unstable sales of notebook and tablet mainboards amid persistent crunch in the supply of related chips and other components.
