PAC chairman controversy: All 8 BJP MLAs resign from their post of chairman of the standing committee

Kolkata, Jul 13 (UNI) As expected eight BJP MLAs on Tuesday resigned
from their respective standing committees of the West Bengal Legislative
Assembly to protest the appointment of Mukul Roy
as the chairperson of the Public Account Committee (PAC).
The BJP lawmakers were the chairpersons of 8 different standing
committees of the Assembly.
The BJP MLA resigned from all standing committees in protest of Mukul
Roy, who was made PAC chairman last week.
BJP's Mihir Goswami, Manoj Tigga, Krishna Kalyani, Nikhil Ranjan Dey,
Vishnupad Sharma, Deepak Barman, Ashok Kirtaniya and Anandmoy Barman
put their paper to the Speaker, Biman Banerjee in the state assembly.
Thereafter all the BJP MLAs headed by the leader of the Opposition
Shuvendu Adhikari went to the Raj Bhavan to call on the
Governor Jagdeep Dhankar.
A BJP spokesman said their decision to quit all the posts of the
standing committees in the Assembly was taken at the party's
parliamentary committee meeting to protest the appointment of Mukul Roy as the
chairperson of the PAC.
He said since Mukul Roy is now with the ruling Trinamool Congress,
traditionally the PAC head is selected from the opposition party.
However, the TMC said Mukul Roy is still now an MLA of BJP.
On June 11, Mukul Roy left the BJP and joined the Trinamool in the
presence of Mamata Banerjee.
