Tamil Nadu reports 2,652 new Covid cases, 36 deaths

CHENNAI: Fresh cases of Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu continued to drop on Monday, when the state reported 2,652 new cases and 36 deaths. This pushed the cumulative case tally to 25.21 lakh and death toll to 33,454.
After discharging 3,104 people from the state registry, Tamil Nadu had 31,819 people still under treatment for the viral infection.
While all districts in the state reported less than 300 new cases, only eight of them reported cases in three digits and 22 districts reported cases below 50.
Coimbatore reported 290 cases followed by 193 in Erode and Thanjavur 191 cases. Perambalur reported 12 cases, Tirunelveli reported 16 and Tenkasi reported 17. Among cities, Chennai reported 165 cases, Trichy had 103 and Madurai reported 33.
With the reduction in cases, the number of black fungus cases reported everyday has also been on the decline. So far, TN has recorded 3,929 cases of black fungus.
"While most people who were admitted early have recovered 122 people died due to this fungal infection," said health minister Ma Subramanian.
Of the 36 deaths in the state, Chennai reported six deaths followed by four in Thanjavur, three in Tiruvallur and two in Trichy. Twenty districts in the state did not report any deaths.
