Unfortunately there's no Academy Sports and Outdoors stores in my state, and the recommended 300lb set from the cheapo setup thread is $568 shipped from amazon
I've looked on craigslist and facebook marketplace and haven't seen anything cheap
We do have Dicks Sporting Goods here, which offers two different 300lb weight sets for $400:
weider cast iron plates

"Fitness Gear" brand

edit: also found "Inspire Fitness" 300lb set at costco for $500:

anyone have any experience with either of these?

Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

Something to consider is the usability of all the plates in a set. Some may disagree, but you don't *need* 35s or 15s. If you have a bar already then the bar with the set is redundant too. You can sell them to bring your total cost down or see if spending the same will get you the weights you need (an perhaps prefer).
I have no experience with either of those brands. I was going to say pick the one easiest to lift/load onto the bar, but they're both good options for that.
edit - the Costco ones are rubber encased so you won't get that iron clang and bang, if that matters to you.Last edited by grapegorilla; Today at 01:12 PM.

Both Fitness Gear and Weider plates are bottom of the barrel, and I can guarantee the Weider plates aren't going to look as good as those in the picture. Still, if you just need weight both should be serviceable.
Inspire Fitness makes good products, but I'm not a fan of rubber coated plates. They often smell and the rubber will eventually crack and make a mess.()---() York Barbell Club #49 ()---() ──<//>─<\\>── BWTG Cluster #11 ──<//>─<\\>──
