Maharashtra on Monday reported 7,603 new Covid-19 cases and 53 fresh fatalities. The state now has 1,08,343 active COVID-19 cases. Mumbai reported 478 new cases and nine fresh fatalities, while 701 patients recovered from the virus. This is the third time since the beginning of July that Mumbai has reported less than 500 COVID-19 cases. The city is now left with 7120 active cases. Meanwhile, there will be no Covid-19 vaccination in Thane on Tuesday. In another development, BMC informed that the preliminary experiment of a cocktail of two antibody drugs, Casirvimab and Imdevimab has been successful. PNB scam: Mumbai court grants bail to Dhanesh Sheth, close aide of Choksi
A trial court here has granted bail to Dhanesh Vrajlal Sheth, the managing director of three firms accused in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case and a close aide of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi.Sheth's lawyer Vijay Aggarwal argued during the case hearing on Monday that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was trying to "fire from the shoulder of the judge".He said that in this matter a supplementary charge sheet was filed by the CBI, summons were issued by the court and cognizance was taken on June 15 this year. Thane: Youth Congress carries boat to petrol pump to protest against hike in fuel prices
With no relief from the skyrocketing fuel prices, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Tuesday protested against the BJP-led government in a rather unusual manner.Instead of just carrying placards and raising slogans, several party workers gathered at the Teen petrol pump in the city along with a dummy boat.The boat also featured a message that read, "Don't get washed away in BJP jumla rains."The workers also protested against the rise in the price of LPG cylinders.However, social distancing and Covid-19 norms were flouted during the protest. Most of the protesters were seen with their masks hanging down their chins.
Maharashtra government submits medical records of late priest Stan Swamy in Bombay High Court
The Maharashtra government on Tuesday submitted to the Bombay High Court the medical records of Jesuit priest and activist Stan Swamy, an 84-yar-old accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoists links case who died in a hospital here while being in judicial custody last week awaiting a medical bail. Chief public prosecutor Aruna Pai told a bench of Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar that the state had submitted "a compilation of Swamy's complete medical records" since the time he was lodged in the Taloja prison as an undertrial. Buckling under pressure from their Hindu community members, parents of a 28-year-old woman in Maharashtra's Nashik district have called off her marriage ceremony with a Muslim man, sources said. The Bombay High Court on Tuesday said while it was aware of the hardships faced by lawyers in Mumbai, it could not go beyond medical advice and permit them to use the local train services for travelling to work.A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni, however, directed the Maharashtra government to inform the court by July 16 of its decision on whether or not 60 registered judicial clerks of the high court could be permitted to use the trains, since the HC was currently permitting only physical filing of cases.The HC was hearing a bunch of public interest litigations (PILs) seeking permission for lawyers to use the local trains to travel to courts and their offices.

Woman dies by suicide in Borivali
A 61-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide by jumping off from the 7th floor of the building in Mumbai's Borivali area, the police informed."The corpse of the victim has been sent for post mortem.
