Kabul, Jul 13 (UNI/Xinhua) Taliban militants' attack on Taluqan city, the capital of northern Takhar province, has been repulsed and the armed group retreated after suffering casualties, a frontline army officer Sayed Naeem said Tuesday.
"Taliban rebels launched massive offensive from two directions on Taluqan city early Tuesday but the security forces returned fire, forcing the attacking insurgents to flee after leaving 12 bodies behind," Naeem said.
The official also confirmed that six security personnel, including a police officer Sayed Amin were killed in the fighting that lasted for couple of hours.
Ten more militants and seven security personnel sustained injuries in the fighting, the official further said.
Taliban militants who have captured all districts of Takhar province over the past one month and attempting to overrun the provincial capital Taluqan city have yet to comment.
