Mums share the ‘useful lies’ they’ve told their kids – including a genius way to ALWAYS know when they’re fibbing

WE can’t be the only ones who tell our kids small white lies just to get them do what we’re asking.

And parents can get pretty creative if it means breezing through mealtimes or getting little ones to bed on time.

Now mums are taking to TikTok to share their most “useful lies,” which seem to work a treat on their kids every single time.

Some are so genius that other parents vow to try it themselves, and although they are brutal, mums and dads can’t help but find them hilarious.

‘Useful lies’

Mum Kathryn Morgan started the trend by sharing her own “useful lie” before prompting others to join in.

She, and many others, found it hilarious knowing just how well this small fib worked – and she still uses it years later.

She explained: “When they were both very little, to get them to hold my hand in the parking lot and stay with me, I told them that – you know how trucks and cars leak oil and you’ll have the little stains in the parking lot – I told my kids that that was what was left over from kids who got run over in the parking lot because they weren’t holding their mumma’s hand and that’s all that was left.”

“To this day they make sure they are right there with me in the parking lot – it was the best lie ever,” she added.

Others agreed it was a great tale to tell since kids running off can be a real struggle for parents.

“I’m glad I’m not the only one who lies to my kids with stuff like this,” one amused parent said.

“Savage but I love it, another agreed, while a third admitted: “I’m going to use this on my kids.”

Highly amused, one more added: “You’re an evil genius.”

One mum even admitted she takes it a step further by “naming” the oil marks in hope it would stop her kids from running off.

Look to the stars

Responding to Kathryn’s video, mum Victoria made her own and shared the very clever (and we mean very clever) way she gets her kids to stop telling porky-pies.

She said: “I told my children that when they lie a star appears on their forehead that only a grown up can see, so any time they’re lying to me they cover their foreheads.”

Victoria herself found it hilarious and struggled to remain composed – which is completely understandable since it’s genius.

Her video has since racked up almost ten million views and has garnered over two million likes from people – mostly parents – who find it seriously relatable.

But thousands more continued sharing their own white lies, and they just keep get better.

“I told my son that when I cook vegetables I only use recipes Spider Man gave me. He eats everything on his plate now,” one clever mum revealed.

Another said: “I told my kids that the car doesn’t drive when they don’t have their seat belt on.”

One mum uses a similar technique to Victoria but says her daughter’s nose moves when she lies – so now she always covers her nose.

Many parents said thier kids truly believe they have “eyes on the back of their head” which are “invisible to kids”.

And not giving up nap time for anyone, one parent said that she tells her kids a “baby unicorn dies when you wake a parent up from a nap.”

Another parent revealed the trick they use to avoid having to buy their kids ice-cream every time – and despite being so cruel, she wasn’t alone.

They said: “If the ice-cream truck is playing music it’s to let everyone know they’re out of ice-cream for the day.”

Loads of mums jumped in to say they did the same thing, while dozens more shared their own similar story – some were even victims themselves admitting it was their own parents who used it on them.

In more parenting news, this mum is sick of ‘perfect mums’ judging her for being a ‘bad parent’ – her kids eat junk & her house is a mess but she’s proud of it.

Meanwhile this mum says she’s trolled for being a lazy mum – her babies go to sleep when they want & she makes her daughter, 6, clean and cook for herself.

Age-defying mums shock as they reveal their REAL ages… including one who’s regularly mistaken for a 12-year-old
