Guwahati, Jul 13 (UNI) As many as 290 cases of encroachment have taken place in the land of Assam by its neighbouring states since 2016.
According to the home ministry data, neighbouring state Nagaland has 99 incidents of encroachment, which is the highest among all the other neighbouring states, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in the assembly today.
Replying to a question, Mr Sarma placed the data on the encroachment by other states on Assam land.
Out of 99 cases of encroachment, Karbi Anglong reported 49, Sivasagar 36, Jorhat 9 and Charaideo 5.
Mizoram is responsible for 42 encroachment cases in Cachar (25), Hailakandi (16) and Karimganj (1) districts.
Meghalaya has 40 cases of encroachment against it in the districts of West Karbi Anglong and Kamrup (13).
Likewise, Arunachal Pradesh has caused 28 cases of encroachments in the districts of Dhemaji (9), Lakhimpur (8), Biswanath Chariali (7), Charaideo (2), Sadiya (2) and Tinsukia (1).
