Victoria University is to to adopt the UAC Advance system for managing academic credit for prior study.
According to University Admissions Centre (UAC), one third of applicants to tertiary study seek academic credit for previous study.
Assessing these requests is typically time-consuming for staff and students.
The process can be automated by using UAC Advance, the organisation says, and Melbourne's Victoria University is about to roll it out.
UAC Advance will integrate existing admissions, student management, and enquiry tools to verify prior learning claims directly with national tertiary record databases.
That will make for more consistent, reliable and speedier outcomes, UAC claims. Even if it does not fully automate the process, it would move institutions along that journey.
UAC managing director David Christie said "The UAC Advance credit management system is designed to position universities strategically in terms of student recruitment and the student experience. This program will also help Victoria University deliver a best-in-class applicant experience."
Victoria University interim executive director (students) James Armit said "We’re tremendously excited to be partnering with UAC on this project. Our shared focus on technical innovation and user experience design will transform the student experience of applying for academic credit, reduce staff workload, and help our staff manage precedents more efficiently."
