VILLUPURAM: Police on Tuesday arrested four people, including a 17-year-old boy, on charges of kidnapping and murdering a 16-year-old girl in a village in
Villupuram district of
Tamil Nadu.
Police said the girl, a plus one student in a government school, went missing on Sunday. Her father lodged a complaint with the
Gingee police on Monday accusing four people of kidnapping her. The police registered a case and began investigations.
On Tuesday morning, the police received an alert that the body of a girl had been found floating in a well in the same village. A police team led by the superintendent of police (Villupuram) N Shreenatha visited the crime spot and made preliminary inquiries. The deceased was identified as the minor girl who went missing on Sunday.
A team from Gingee fire and rescue services personnel recovered the body from the well and sent it for postmortem.
The police, who had earlier registered a case under
Section 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) of the Indian Penal Code, alerted the case to sections to 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 302 (punishment for murder) of the
IPC and arrested four people.
