The Director of the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and Soil Science Professor Alexander McBratney has been appointed to the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC) for a period of three years.

Announcing Professor McBratney’s appointment, the Federal Government said he had made major contributions to soil science and agriculture through the development of the concepts of pedometrics, digital soil mapping and precision agriculture.

The Minister fo Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor said Professor McBratney has extensive expertise in soil carbon, which is a priority under the Government’s
Technology Investment Roadmap and soil carbon is also one of five priority methods being developed in 2021 under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF).

Minister Taylor notes that ERAC advises the Government on ERF methods, to ensure that projects funded under the ERF deliver genuine emissions reductions that help Australia meet and beat its emissions reduction targets.

“The Government looks forward to Professor McBratney’s contribution to the work of ERAC, particularly in ensuring Australia continues to provide world-class, science-driven methods that underpin soil carbon credits under the ERF,” Minister Taylor said.
