Google Lens, an app that lets you understand the world around you by just pointing your camera at is reportedly receiving a tweak in terms of design.

As spotted first by the folks over at 9to5Google, the app looks to have been slightly redesigned to emphasize more on the items saved in your Camera Roll. After the update, when you open the app, you will find an entirely new view. The viewfinder is now completely changed and divided into three sections – “Search with your camera,” which will let you point your camera at any scene or object and get details around it using AI. The second section which is a 4x2 grid emphasizes the “Screenshots” stored in your Camera roll and the third section “All images” just shows all other images from your Camera Roll.

You can swipe these sections down and see the old viewfinder taking over, however, there is a slight change. It shows a preview of your gallery in the bottom-left corner. Previously, it was just a “camera” icon, tapping on which would show up those two sections “Screenshots” and “All images” on a full screen.

The change might be coming to convey to the users that they can also analyze their existing images using Google Lens. Well, this is known to many, at least to the users who are pretty actively using the app. But, there could be many who are just using the “live” analysis power of Google Lens and unknown to its full prowess. Keeping the items from the Camera Roll right on the home screen when you open the app simplifies the design. However, I feel the interface looks a bit crowded now.
