India's factory output increases 29.3% in May 2021

The quick estimates of the index with base 2011-12 stands at 116.6 in May 2021 compared to 90.2 in the same month last year.

Index of Industrial Production (IIP) or factory output of India rises 29.3% in May 2021. The quick estimates of the index with base 2011-12 stands at 116.6 in May 2021 compared to 90.2 in the same month last year.

However, compared to the previous month, the IIP data has contracted. IIP skyrocketed by 134.44% to 126.6 in April 2021.

As per the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of May 2021 stand at 108.0, 113.5 and 161.9 respectively. These Quick Estimates will undergo revision in subsequent releases as per the revision policy of IIP.

As per Use-based classification, the indices stand at 122.7 for Primary Goods, 65.6 for Capital Goods, 129.9 for Intermediate Goods and 129.8 for Infrastructure/ Construction Goods for the month of May 2021. Further, the indices for Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables stand at 78.7 and 136.4 respectively for the month of May 2021.

Along with the Quick Estimates of IIP for the month of May 2021, the indices for April 2021 have undergone the first revision and those for February 2021 have undergone the final revision in light of the updated data received from the source agencies. The Quick Estimates for May 2021, the first revision for April 2021 and the final revision for February 2021 have been compiled at weighted response rates of 87 per cent, 92 per cent and 94 per cent respectively.

The Centre will release IIP data for July 2021 on August 12, 2021.
