Ludhiana, July 12
The College of Fisheries (COF), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), celebrated National Fish Farmers’ Day (NFFD) virtually to acclaim fish farmers for their contribution to the national economy and food/nutritional security, making India the second largest fish producer of the world.
The NFFD is commemorated every year to salute Indian scientists Dr Hiralal Chaudhri, also known as ‘Father of Induced Breeding’, and Dr KH Alikunhi, for gifting the world the induced fish breeding technology and lifting Indian aquaculture with ‘Blue Revolution’.
The event constituted of two sessions, where students delivered speeches, made posters and recited poems to acknowledge their contribution towards the Indian economy. In the farmer’s session, a video documentary was shared with over 100 participants. Fish farmers shared their experiential journey into aquaculture. —TNS
