Update: July 13, 2021
A new tip has surfaced that reaffirms the previous rumors where it was uttered that Galaxy S22 will not feature the under-display camera. According to the tipster FronTron, none of the Galaxy S22 series phones will be equipped with an under-display selfie camera. This corroborates many previous reports stating the same. The tipster, however, also tells that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 108MP camera and not the 200MP.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is widely tipped to feature an under-display camera, the Galaxy S22 is said to be coming without it. A new report from a South Korean publication suggests that the upcoming Galaxy S22 doesn’t feature the UDC (under-display camera). This means Samsung will continue to follow the hole-punch design.
The inside sources suspect the quality and yield issues due to which Samsung is skipping the under-display camera tech on the Galaxy S22.
The report further claims, a proper phone from Samsung with UDC tech is only possible after the second half of 2022. It is possible that the Note series coming in 2022 might then use this new tech.
Up until now, many smartphone manufacturers have tried their hands on this tech already and ZTE looks to have succeeded even with its commercially available Axon 20 5G. However, there are still many phones which have been introduced and but are not yet available to the public. Building an under-display camera phone is not an easy task and it requires particular expertise. It includes many challenges and the manufacturers have to solve them for a flawless design.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is highly rumored to feature an in-display camera. In fact, a recent tip from a known tipster @IceUniverse suggests Samsung has improved its under-display camera tech but there is still a major issue.
Note that Samsung introduced its under-display camera tech earlier this year. But it was introduced on a laptop rather than a smartphone. However, this gave a clear idea that the tech will eventually make its way to smartphones as well. But, is it coming as early as on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or in 2022?
Past rumor has suggested that the Galaxy S22 will not feature the 3D ToF sensor as well.
