NAGPUR: Students who could not physically attend the Nagpur University’s 108th convocation ceremony conducted on July 9 due to Covid restrictions were elated to get their medals and prizes at a ceremony organized on Monday. NU has decided to hand over the degrees and PhDs to students physically from July 12 to 16.
Students were called to NU’s convocation hall in two batches. The first batch was called from 11am to 1pm and the second from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Despite the restrictions, students enjoyed whatever time they had.
Students TOI spoke to expressed their happiness on receiving their medals from the vice-chancellor pro-VC, and other dignitaries. Pallavi Mohurle, who completed her PG in Zoology and secured first rank in one of the subjects, said, “It was quite an honour to receive the medal from the VC. I am happy to have received this medal physically and not online.”
Aisha Sheikh, another PG Zoology student who secured third rank in one of the subjects, said, “It is a great feeling to attend the convocation ceremony. We had almost lost all hopes of this happening. I hope students from next year can attend convocation ceremonies without fearing the virus.”
Swati Mane, another student from PG Zoology, called it a very special day in her life. “Despite following rules regarding physical distancing and wearing mask, it was a beautiful feeling,” she said.
It was worth the wait for Suraj Ukey, PG Zoology top ranker among boys. “I feel proud to have received this medal,” he said.
A PG mechanical engineering student from Anjuman College, Dilip Shrivastava, said virtual ceremonies cannot give same joy experienced while attending ceremony held in the real world.
