MUMBAI: In two separate incidents, the
Railway Protection Force (
RPF) personnel handed over
passengers their forgotten bags which contained cash and valuables worth Rs 4.40 lakhs, on Sunday.
Central Railways’s chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said, "In the first incident, constable Vishnu checked the empty coach of Panchvati express after the passengers vacated the train at
CSMT. He noticed a black coloured bag on berth no. 55 of D7 coach. The constable found Rs 1 lakh cash and some medical papers on which the mobile number and name of the person was written."
The RPF promptly called up the passenger who confirmed that he had lost his bag containing Rs 1 lakh cash in the denomination of Rs 500 currency. His identity was ascertained and the bag with cash was handed over to him in the presence of two witnesses.
In the second instance, a passenger was asked to alight after she brought to halt the Jabalpur Garibrath Express train after pulling the chain at Igatpuri station. However, her luggage was left behind in the G7 coach near seats number 4 and 5.
The message was circulated among the RPF team and as soon as the train arrived at Kalyan station, the luggage of the lady passenger was retrieved. The passenger was then handed her bag that contained three iPhones worth Rs 2.50 lakh, a laptop worth Rs 60,000, and household belongings worth Rs 20 thousand.
