MUMBAI: With yet another hike on Monday, the rates of fuel in Mumbai skyrocketed to an all-time high with petrol crossing the Rs 107-mark and diesel nearing Rs 98 per litre. After remaining unchanged on Sunday, the rate of petrol went up by 27 paise from the previous Rs 106.93 per litre. A litre of petrol now costs Rs 107.20 in the city -- the highest Mumbaikars have ever witnessed. On the other hand, the cost of diesel has now been pitched at Rs 97.29 per litre. Mumbai had crossed the Rs 100/litre mark for petrol on May 29. Fuel prices have so far been increased 39 times since May 1 and have remained unchanged on 34 days. Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and several other political parties staged protests across the city over the weekend against the ever-rising fuel prices. At a time when local trains are already out of bounds for the common public, the rates of petrol and diesel have been burning a hole in the pockets of the Mumbaikars who have to commute on a regular basis owing to professional reasons.
