PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Monday claimed to have busted an inter-state racket of manufacturing and distributing fake currency notes with the arrest of six men.
The police have recovered 1,402 fake notes of denomination of Rs 2,000 and 929 notes of the denomination of Rs 500 from them. "The suspects have been taken into custody from Nigdi, Pandharpur, Satara, Mumbai and Gujarat," Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Krishna Prakash said.
The first arrest in the case was made on June 23, on a tip-off received by police constables Kishore Padher and
Ramesh Mavaskar of the Nigdi police. The police had recommended 293 fake notes of Rs 2,000 from the suspect Gorakha Pawar (30). The police also recovered 255 fake notes of Rs 2,000 and 26 notes of Rs 500 from Pawar's house in Pandharpur.
"During the interrogation, Pawar revealed the name of his friend Vithhal
Shevale (38) of Satara. The Nigdi police then arrested Shevale and recovered 180 and 21 fake notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 each. Shevale revealed the name of Jitendra
Panigrahi of Mumbai, who was already arrested by ATS in fake currency case," the commissioner said.
He said that the police took Panigrahi into custody. He revealed the name of one suspect from Gujarat. "We did not have his full details. Sub-inspector of the Nigdi police
Raosaheb Bamble and team laid traps the Gujarat on July 8 and arrested three suspects identified as
Raju Parmar (38), Jitendra Patel (26) and Kirankumar Patel (38). We have recovered more fake notes, laptop and printer from the Jitendra and Kirankumar," Krishna Prakash said.
He said that the probe revealed that the suspects used to print the fake notes and used to sell Rs 2,000 fake note for Rs 500 and the fake note of Rs 500 for Rs 50. "They even tried to sell the fake note to the people by claiming that these notes were rejected by the Reserve Bank of India," the commissioner said.
