Kanpur: Six people, including a former woman brigand, were arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of a woman, who was shot dead in sleep in Nai Basti Maqsoodabad area of Bithoor late on Friday night.
The police told reporters that the murder of Shashi Gautam alias Angoori was carried out by the shooters of former bandit Seema Yadav, who had taken a contract of Rs 50,000 to eliminate her.
The police said the murder was conspired by a government school teacher and his son, who were fed up with the constant blackmailing by Shashi. Seema had earlier in 2019 announced to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Mirzapur.
The incident took place when Shashi was sleeping on the terrace. Her body was found lying in a pool of blood on Saturday morning. DCP West Sanjeev Tyagi said that the murder was a fallout of illicit relationship. “One Mahesh Sharma, a resident of the village, had illicit relations with Shashi Gautam for the past few years. He was not only looking after the entire expenses of Shashi, but even got her house built. Mahesh told investigators that Shashi was continuously blackmailing him. She had insulted him on a number of occasions. In lieu, she asked him for money. So he along with his son Amit Sharma conspired to kill Shashi. Amit knew Seema, a resident of Nehru Nagar in Akbarpur area of Kanpur Dehat. About a month ago, he discussed the matter with Seema.
On Friday night, shooters Anuj alias Anurag Yadav, Satyam Sharma and Amar Yadav, reached Shashi’s house. “With the help of a rope, they climbed atop the roof-top and shot Shashi,” he said.
ACP Kalyanpur Dinesh Kumar Shukla said Seema had given Rs 10,000 each to the shooters Anuj, Satyam and Amar. “It was only after taking the money that the accused killed Shashi,” he said.
Police investigation revealed that the shooters had reached Maqsoodabad two weeks ago. They went to Mahesh’s house. Seema Yadav was also there. “There they hatched out a plan to eliminate Shashi. Mahesh’s son Amit had visited Shashi’s house with the shooters. Mahesh said that since 2008 he has been in touch with Shashi. Shashi lived separately from her husband,” said the official.
According to Mahesh, he used to bear all the expenses of Shashi’s house. On being asked by her, he took a house on rent for her in the city. She later forced him to buy land and got a house built for her.
She was constantly demanding money from Mahesh. “When he did not give money, she used to humiliate her in front of everyone. Mahesh said he was almost fed up with her and finally got Shashi eliminated,” said the official further.
