A 30-year-old woman from Pune died after her car rammed into a stationary trailer on the Mumbai-Pune expressway near Panvel on Monday. Her husband who was driving also suffered injuries in the accident and was admitted to a private hospital in Panvel.

The deceased was identified as Karuna Falak and they were going to Mumbai from Pune in their car when the accident took place.

Police said that Prasanna Falak, 38, and his wife Karuna were on their way to Mumbai, and when they were crossing Kon village, near Panvel, around 10 am, their car rammed into the stationery trailer.

“The trailer had developed a technical glitch and hence the driver had parked it on a side and was repairing it. Prima facie it appears that Falak lost control on his car and then it rammed into the trailer,” said a police official from Panvel Taluka police station. He added that both he and his wife suffered severe injuries in the accident and they were rushed to a hospital. However, his wife succumbed to her injuries after some time. Falak is still under observation at the hospital.

“We did not get the exact location where they were going in Mumbai. We have contacted their family members and trying to get other details”, police added.
