The Lokpal received 12 complaints of corruption between April-June this year, of which eight were against senior government officials. According to the most recent official data, the Lokpal received at least 110 complaints during the year 2020-21, of which four were against MPs. However, this number was about 92 percent lower than the 1,427 complaints received in 2019-20.
According to Lokpal data, out of 12 complaints received in the first three months of the current financial year, eight were against Group A or B level officers. According to this, two complaints were closed after preliminary inquiry, while three complaints are still pending investigation with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). At the same time, a complaint is awaited to get the status report from the CBI.
Anti-corruption activist Ajay Dubey said, “The Lokpal has been functioning for more than two years. Lokpal should make public the details of prosecution related to corruption complaints received by him.
On March 23, 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose as the chairman of the Lokpal. The Lokpal is the apex body to investigate allegations of corruption against public functionaries, including the Prime Minister.
