Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Eleven people were killed and nearly 13 people received burn injuries in lightning strikes in different parts of the state in last 24 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced ex-gratia for families of those who lost their lives because of lightning.
While seven people were killed in Gwalior-Chambal region, two persons in Rewa and one person in Hoshangabad and Betul districts each were killed because of lightning.
According to information, three persons identified as Shubham, 16, a resident of village Barodi of Karera Tehsli, Jay Singh, 15, a resident of village Bamara of Pohari Tehsil and Pooja Gurjar, 15, a resident of village Balauja of Kolaras tehsil were killed due to lightning in Shivpuri district.
Similarly, two persons identified as Hariom, 65, and his son Kuber Yadav, 35, were killed due to lightning in Taparia village in Sheopur district. The father and son were returning home when the mishap occurred on Sunday.
In Gwalior district, two persons identified as Hakim Singh, 22 and Ravi Marwadi, 10, were killed. According to information, Hakim Singh and Ravi belonged to nomadic families of Rajasthan who migrate to Madhya Pradesh every summer to graze their camels and sheep. They were hiding under a tree when lightning struck. Two of their family members also received burn injuries in the incident.
In Rewa district, the lightning incident took place in Bhatlo village under Bichhiya police station and in Pati village under Govindgarh police station area where two persons were killed and three other received burns. The deceased were identified as Guddu Upadhyay, 27, a resident of Bhatlo and Girish Patel, 38.
Similarly, one person each died in Hoshangabad and Betul. According to information, Dalpat Singh, 40, a resident of Karpa in Bankhedi of Hoshangabad and Salikram Marsakole, 40, a resident of village Avariya of Betul district were killed.
While expressing condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to family of deceased. “Saddened by the loss of lives due to lightning in parts of Madhya Pradesh. The State Government will provide all possible assistance to the affected. From the PMNRF, Rs. 2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured: PM Modi,” Prime Minister Office tweeted on Monday.
